Latexallergie

Allergic reactions to latex are not rare, about two percent of the total population suffer from latex-sensitization among workers in the medical field, there are ten to 17 percent.
Here it is either of type IV contact allergy with late reactions to the additives contained in latex products or immediate-type hypersensitivity (type I) in various water-soluble natural latex proteins. The incidence of type IV allergy form decreases as the allergy-causing substances are known and in the processing can be avoided or replaced. In contrast, the immediate-type allergy to latex proteins.
The symptoms of latex allergy usually occur runny nose, to asthma or Kontakturtikarien. An immediate allergic-type reactions to natural latex is more problematic than one symptom during the late-type reaction (contact dermatitis). A step forward for the avoidance of latex sensitization was already using Powder free latex gloves. It makes more sense, however, entirely switch to non-latex gloves.
To a latex allergy, you should think if ...

In the medical or nursing care, in the rubber manufacturing industry are employed or were operated frequently,

You are allergic to rubber gloves,

Them during inflation of the balloons lips swell,

They are hypersensitive to certain exotic fruits such as bananas, kiwi and avocado,

They respond with swelling and itching on condoms.
Latex in everyday life
Natural latex is not very often found in medical equipment and aids, but also in many items that we use in everyday life, such as anti-skid socks, respiratory and carnival masks, baby bottles, baby nipples / pacifiers, breathing masks, Chumminess, ECG accessories, finger cots, rubber trim, rubber toys, gloves, adhesive tape, chewing gum, toys, compression bandages / stockings, condoms, balloons, air mattresses, foam rubber ear plugs, patches, pencils, socks / stockings / tights, hot water bottles.
Cross reactions to food and plants
In patients with an allergy to natural rubber latex can occur cross-reactions. Problems arise when pruning the plants or by allergens that get through the leaves into the air. The eating of the fruit or the release of allergenic ingredients from the plants can induce severe clinical symptoms.
Cause of cross-reactivity with latex allergy can be
in plants: Ficus benjamini (ficus), Christ thorn, gum tree, hemp, periwinkle, coral-spurge, mulberry, oleander, poinsettia,
in fruits: avocado, banana, kiwi,
with vegetables / salad: raw potato.
